Celebrities who call the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago home include singer/actress Jennifer Hudson, who nearly became the "american idol" in 2004, but parlayed her talent into something even greater: an academy award for Best Supporting Actress in the 2006 film "Dreamgirls." Another famous person to call Englewood home was the late comedian/actor Bernie Mac. Mac won two Emmy Awards for his lead role in the eponymous "Bernie Mac Show," and he starred in a number of films, including the remake of "Ocean's Eleven" and "Mr. 3000." He died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on August 9, 2008, from complications due to pneumonia and has an honorary street named after him near his childhood home at the corner of W 96th St and S Sangamon St.
