Stephen Tyng Mather High School
Named for industrialist and conservationist Stephen Mather, who became the first Director of the National Park Service, this school opened in 1959 at 5836 North Lincoln Avenue and borders nearby Mather Park. Its alumni include internet entrepreneur Max Levchin (co-founder of Paypal and creator of Slide), Robert Berland (winner of a silver medal in judo at the 1984 Summer Olympics), Ira Silverstein, a Democrat in the Illinois Senate since 1999, and Nathan Rabin (a music critic who was the first head writer at the Onion's A.V. Club).
