James T. Farrell
Writer James T. Farrell published 42 volumes of fiction, many short stories, and essays. His best known characters were Studs Lonigan and Danny O'Neil. He began writing the first part of a trilogy about Lonigan at 2023 East 72nd Street.

South Shore High School at 7529 South Constance Avenue was a public high school founded in 1940, but which has since been divided into four separate specialized learning institutions. Its notable alumni include Larry Ellison (CEO and co-founder of Oracle Corporation), Marv Levy (who coached the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls), Suze Orman (financial advisor and television personality), and Mandy Patinkin (actor and singer).
